AQUATICS

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Swim Lesson Instructors for the Indoor season which will run Sept. through May on Saturday’s at Richards High School.  The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.  Starting wage for Swim Lesson Instructors is 10.00 per hour for group lessons.  Prior Swim knowledge is required and WSI Certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  1. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  2. Friendly, outgoing personality, positive attitude and the ability to work well with others in a team oriented environment.
  3. Prior swim lessons teaching experience preferred.
  4. Must enjoy working with children.
  5. This position is responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
  6. Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies.
  7. Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons
  8. Submits completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time.

Tot Swim Lesson Instructor

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Tot Swim Lesson Instructors for the Indoor season which will run Sept. through May on Saturdays at Richards High School. We are looking for energetic individuals who are creative and can work with infants through toddlers and their parents.  The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Community Pavilion

PART-TIME MAINTENANCE CUSTODIAN
The Part-Time Maintenance Custodian position is responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance work in the Community Pavilion and its immediate surrounding grounds. The employee is under the direct supervision of the maintenance supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Change Light Bulbs.
  • Cleans adjacent grounds for litter and sweeps walks.
  • Cleans and maintains locker and shower rooms including replenishing supplies.
  • Act as a watchman when necessary.
  • Submits daily check sheets of work performed.
  • Setup and take down of volleyball equipment, tables, chairs, party rentals, and other programs as needed.
  • Clean all gym courts and surrounding area.
  • Obey and enforce rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Oak Lawn Park District.
  • Performs other task as needed by Maintenance Supervisor.

    Marginal Functions:
  • Moves furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Reports building repairs.
  • Shovels snow.
  • Operates gas powered snow blower.
  • Spreads salt on sidewalks.

    Psychological Considerations:
  • Must work closely with others.
  • Must work around the general public and patrons in the facility.
  • Must work under the supervision and directions of superiors.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize well.
  • Must be able to communicate with staff and patrons in a friendly and professional manner. 

    Physical Considerations

  • Custodian is exposed to outside weather conditions 10 percent of the time, including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain, and ice.
  • Protective clothing is required as follows: ear plugs, safety glasses/goggles, protective gloves, and protective equipment needed for specific job task.
  • Worker is exposed to chemicals including but not limited to cleaning supplies, weed killers, oils, and gasoline.

    Community Pavilion - Fitness Instructor **Ongoing Availability**


    OVERVIEW
    Responsible for providing group fitness classes that are organized and safe for all fitness participants and their varying level of physical fitness

    DESCRIPTION
    A Community Pavilion Fitness Instructor position is part time. The Fitness Instructor is to design and conduct classes that are in the best interest of the participants in a safe manner. The fitness instructor is to be outgoing and professional in order to effectively motivate participants. Instructor must also be able to teach hour long class without leaving and be able to sub other classes when necessary.  

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Must have one of the following Group Exercise Instructor Certifications: ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NETA
    Additional specialty / certifications preferred (Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, etc)

    Maintain First Aid / CPR certification

The FLASH Recreation Leader position is a part time/seasonal position. The FLASH Recreation Leader works directly with the participants and is directly responsible for leading daily activities and interacting with the participants at their assigned FLASH location. This may include a wide variety of responsibilities including supervision of participants, the set up and clean up of snack, games, crafts and activities and to contribute to lesson plans. The ideal candidate will be mature, responsible and have a great attitude. The candidate should have the ability to effectively communicate with children and adults.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 16 years old
Experience working with children ages K-8th grade.

HOURS (Typical)
Morning Shift: 6:45AM - 8:45AM

ICE ARENA

  • Recreation Supervisor

    JOB DESCRIPTION
    The Oak Lawn Park District is looking to hire an energetic, hardworking individual to fill the role as a full time, Recreation Supervisor. This individual must be able to perform a variety of tasks, take on various roles, and be able to provide excellent customer service to staff and patrons. We are looking for an individual whose goals align with our mission of promoting a strong sense of community by providing leisure opportunities and the preservation of natural resources that enhances the quality of life and wellness for everyone. 

    The Recreation Supervisor is a full-time, benefit eligible, exempt position; this position requires long range planning skills and the ability to coordinate the completion of multiple tasks or projects within established time frames. The employee is under the direct supervision of the Ice Arena Facility Manager. 

    DUTIES
    The employee will oversee and give direction to staff consisting of Skating Professionals, Ice Monitors and Student Teachers.  Develop and implement programming for both recreational “learn to skate” and competitive skaters.  Schedule lessons, instructors, and ice time.  Host training seminars and competitions for competitive skaters.  Regularly update tests for group skaters; recruit new students by marketing to schools, clubs, and community; and plan events to bring new participants into the programs.  Organize competitions, ice shows/exhibitions, special workshops and camps.  Implement other activities which will serve to further improve the lesson programs.  Ordering supplies, hiring instructors and staff as needed.  Hold staff meetings and in-services.  Budget, manage, plan, organize and supervise Adult Hockey League.  Evaluate the effectiveness of services and makes recommendations on modifications of existing programs or introduction of new ones.  Provide excellent customer service at all times.  Follow Oak Lawn Park District policies and safety procedures.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Graduate of an accredited college or university with a major in parks and recreation or a closely related field; at least one year experience in a community recreation setting, CPRP or eligibility preferred.  Skating background or understanding of the program is preferred.  Experience designing and overseeing program operations with strong administrative and organizational skills.  Must be able to promote, market, and attract people to the program.  Must have excellent customer focus and relationship building skills.  Certified in CPR and First Aid or the ability to become certified after hire.  Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, Money management skills, Problem solving skills, and must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Zamboni Driver/Building Supervisor

    The Oak Lawn Park District Ice Arena is seeking a responsible individual to operate the ice resurfacer and act as the building supervisor to provide the safest ice surface and facility possible. 

    This position requires the supervision of other part time staff.  They will also conduct routine maintenance in and around the building in order to provide a safe and clean environment for the community to enjoy. 

    The workplace is moderate to very busy depending on the task and time of day. 

    Applicants must be 18 years of age or older; possess strong leadership and problem solving skills.  They must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.  High school diploma or equivalent. 

    Applicants must be able to work independently. 

    Seeking ice arena/skating experience, mechanical experience, customer service experience, supervisory experience.

    This is a part time position with a variety of shifts available to include nights and weekends.  15-20 hours per week.

    Starting wage- $9.50 per hour for probationary period with potential for increase after approximately 90 days.

    CONCESSION STAND ATTENDANT 
    The concession stand attendant is responsible for the preparation of food, cash handling, and cleanliness of the concession stand. Additional responsibilities include assisting with supply inventory and re-stocking.  Customer service skills are essential to this position.

  • perform a variety of tasks in a busy atmosphere
  • have a high safety awareness
  • work independent and with others on a variety of tasks 
  • be willing to complete on-line Food Handler Certification Training within 30 days of start

     Part-time Freestyle Ice Monitor - Ice Arena

    The Ice Monitors are responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct and ensuring the safety of all skaters during Freestyle/practice skating sessions. Ice Monitors maintain attendance for sessions, and are responsible for payments and cash control procedures. Ice Monitors will make certain that participants respect all skaters, Ice Monitors and coaches, maintain ice when needed and allow the program skater to have the right-of-way to increase the safety of all participants.  Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents is essential.Must be able to:
  • provide exceptional customer service
  • work a varied schedule as required
  • use good judgment and discretion as needed
  • perform a variety of tasks in a busy atmosphere
  • have a high safety awareness
  • work independent and with others on a variety of tasks 
  • be willing to work in cold conditions in the Ice Arena area for extended amounts of time

    Qualifications:  Excellent communication, problem solving, and organization skills. Preferred Cash Handling Experience. CPR/1st Aid/AED certification or willingness to become certified within 3 months

    Starting Wage:     $8.25 an hour

    Hours/Shift:        2-3 shifts per week

     

    Weekdays:  Time ranges from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm
    Rotating Saturdays: 6:45-9:45 am

    Other days/times as required for special events
    Hours can change per season.

     SKATE GUARD

    Applicants must have strong skating experience.

    The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.
    The skate guard is responsible for handing out skates and maintaining an organized atmosphere in the skate rental room.

    The skate guard has a large amount of contact with the public.

    Guards are also responsible for general custodial duties throughout the building during every shift.

    Applicant must be able to work evenings and varied weekend shifts.

Marketing & Public Relations Intern 


General:  The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students with a Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations Major or Minor. The Marketing & Public Relations Intern will assist the Communications Department, and more specifically, the Marketing & Public Relations Supervisor with everyday communications.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Take pictures of programs, events, facilities, parks
Develop promotional materials such as press release, signs, coupons, flyers, banners, e-mail blasts, pamphlets, slideshows, videos, website, etc
Assist with obtaining sponsors/donors/advertisers
Measure marketing efforts through surveys and focus groups
Maintain social media presence and develop Park District presence on other social networks
Research parks and recreation trends
Order promotional items
Attend community meetings and events
Plan and implement special events and exhibitions
Help maintain a positive image of the Park District to the community

Day Camp Counselor

Job Description:
To supervise, nurture, and run activities for groups of children ages 3-14 in a day camp setting. Counselors are responsible for the safety and well being of camper participants. Counselor’s main priority is to provide campers with a fun, happy, and nurturing experience in a safe and friendly environment. The Day Camp counselor job is a seasonal, part time position, starting in June and ending in August. 

Qualifications:
Experience working with children ages 3-14 in recreational, educational or related programs preferred. High School graduate preferred. Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities. Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. Strong organizational and communication skills. 

Day Camp Site Director

Job Description: 
To plan, oversee and administer Day Camp daily operations, including supervising a staff of 6-10 counselors and 40-80 campers aged 3-14 in either the 3-5 age group or 6-14 age group. Site Director is responsible for planning weekly themed activities and crafts. Plan the day camp special activities, events and local excursions. The position requires excellent communication with parents, counselors, Day Camp coordinator, Recreation Supervisor and other Oak Lawn Park District staff. Supervise day camp counselors, assisting and mentoring them in their duties, evaluating and meeting with staff while handling staff issues. The Site Director is responsible for the happiness, safety and well being of campers and staff. The position is responsible for working with parents and assisting campers with special needs. Day Camp Site Director is a seasonal part time position, starting in May/June and ending the season in mid-August. During the 8-week day camp season, the Site Director hours are 8:00am – 2:45pm for Full Day Camps; 2:00– 6:15pm for Extended Camps and 8:30am-3:30pm for Preschool Camp Sunshine camps. 

Qualifications:
A minimum of two (2) years working in day camp programs or related programs working with children ages 3-14. Have degree or pursuing a degree in Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or another related field. Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.  Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. Strong organizational and communication skills.


 

Recreation Intern

Note: If you are not a current student studying recreation, sports management or a related field you DO NOT qualify for an internship at the Oak Lawn Park District.

 
The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work.
 
An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: August 1st
